Local Women Activists Donate Proceeds of Play to Rape Crisis Mid-West

On Thursday 19th June 2014, the Limerick Women Warriors will proudly donated the proceeds raised through their performances of ‘Our Vagina Dialogues’ to Rape Crisis Mid-West at 10am in the Northside Family Resource Centre. The group were keen to support the vital services of the organisation at a time when their future position is so precarious and will donated €900 to the organisation. On hearing the news that the women wished to donate to the organisation, Miriam Duffy, Executive Director of Rape Crisis Mid-West, exclaimed ‘… €900 is an incredible amount to raise but more than that, the group deserve an Oscar for their performance…’.

The performance of ‘Our Vagina Dialogues’ is a self-written play by the Limerick Women Warriors. The project evolved from a Women’s Studies project based in the Northside Family Resource Centre. Wanting to raise awareness of issues facing women in a way that was inventive and spoke to a Limerick audience, the group wrote their own play based around a similar format in ‘The Vagina Monologues’ by Eve Ensler. ‘Our Vagina Dialogues’ has been performed in various locations across Limerick city and county in 2013 and 2014 and has provoked much debate and talk about issues facing women.
